A ͯ Academic Extension Program

University of Adelaide Waite Excursion

On Thursday 18 October, the A ͯ  Academic Extension students had an educational experience at the University of Adelaide Waite Campus. There the boys worked though many workshop experiments and got to experience a campus tour. Lieke, our workshop teacher began the day with a science experiment where the boys extracted DNA from strawberries. This was done by combining a chemical solution with strawberries. After lunch, the boys commenced their campus tour during which they walked to the Plant Accelerator. This one of a kind greenhouse is designed to manipulate different climates which affects plants in different ways.

The last workshop involved the boys in a competition, smelling and guessing anonymous samples. This experiment required the boys to be blind folded and hold their nose and then consume a fruit-flavoured candy. After this experiment, the boys have learnt that 80% of our taste is from our smell. The boys had a great and educational day at Waite Campus and thank you to The University of Adelaide for hosting the boys.
