Library News

Many of our students across the school participated in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.  A challenge designed to promote literacy and encourage children to read more broadly.  While each successful participant receives an award from the Premier’s office, we offer some incentives at a school level too.

In the Senior School the annual pizza lunch is always popular.  The boys who completed the challenge will be receiving their invitations shortly to acknowledge their hard work.

Meanwhile, the primary has a prize for the first class to have all class members’ completed sheet handed in.  This year the winners were Class 2SH.  Their prize was to have a Book Seller from Pegi Williams bookshop come and introduce them to some new titles.  The boys are then allocated $100 from the library budget to spend on new books that will be donated to the library.

The selection process is taken seriously as Rebecca presents an assortment of appropriate titles and the boys have an opportunity to peruse the books and find favourites.  Voting and some negotiations take place as they ensure the most popular chosen titles fit within their budgetary constraints.  This year’s seven most popular titles just came in under budget.  A special book plate, complete with the boys’ names will be placed in the front of the selected books.  These books will now make up part of the library collection. Thank you and congratulations to 2SH.

The Hallinan Library staff are also very pleased to support the National Campaign School Libraries Matter.
