College Council Parent Ballot 2019

PARENT MEMBER VACANCIES (3)

As the number of nominating parents for the ‘Parent Member Category’ on Doncaster Secondary College Council is greater than the number of vacancies it is necessary to conduct a ballot.

Delivery of the ballot paper to parents is via this newsletter. Please see the ballot paper attached.

The College will supply blank envelopes as required. Envelopes are available at the General office.

Please note only completed ballot papers as per instructions on the ballot paper are valid.

Below are the names of the candidates who have nominated and their statements:

  • Pranil Chandra
  • Julie Daniell
  • Sofia Georgiou
  • Christine Gouramanis

Candidate: Pranil Chandra

I have previously served on the DSC school council and its associated finance, chaplaincy and policy sub-committees. This has provided deep insight and experience in the running of our existing council. I am also a member of the DSC parents association. Separately, I've served as a counsellor at East Doncaster Secondary College and Serpell Primary, collectively having over 10-years of continuous school council experience.

I have volunteered at school fundraisers, sporting activities and been invited to school excursions and camps. I was also the resident CSIRO Mathematician-in-School for Serpell Primary. I have coached school basketball with Leeds Street Association.

Having worked in many executive positions in my professional career, I have extensive experience in managing multi-million dollar projects, budgets, contracts and vendor relationships, as well as building strategic governance and compliance corporate frameworks.

With these skills and experience, I am determined to continue to build a strong and supportive school community and would be honoured to represent you.

Candidate: Julie Daniell

I believe that volunteering is a great way to become part of a community. I have previously volunteered in The State Emergency Service, Neighbourhood Watch, Cancer Council Peer Support Program, my children’s Kindergarten and Primary School.

I have my own Book Keeping Business, using these skills in roles such as Finance Sub Committees and School Banking. As President of Parents and Friends, my strong interpersonal skills assisted in working well as part of a team.

As President of Doncaster Gardens Primary School Council, I was passionate about representing our school and our community.

I am applying for a position on Doncaster Secondary College Council so that I can connect with the College community and be a strong part of it.

We have two boys and love getting outdoors, keeping fit and enjoying family time.

I look forward to meeting many of you over the years I am at the College.

Candidate: Sofia Georgiou

My name is Sofia Georgiou and I am the proud parent of Nikolas and Kalli Georgiou. We have been part of the Doncaster Secondary College Community since 2011 and I have lived in Lower Templestowe my whole life.

I have been a member of College Council for 8 years, with 7 of those as President. I am also actively involved in the planning of the 50th Anniversary celebrations and all subcommittees of Council, which include Policy and Planning, Finance and the Wellbeing Committee.

I have an Honours Degree in Economics and have worked in Finance for over 10 years and now run a successful home-based business with Tupperware, which allows me the flexibility to work around my family and volunteer commitments, which include Neighbourhood watch and other charity work.

I would be honoured to have a further term on Council to continue to give back to the community and the school that has helped my children in so many ways.

Candidate: Christine Gouramanis

My name is Christine Gouramanis and I have a son in year 9.

I am a registered architect and run my own practice. I am keen to share my knowledge, experience, time and commitment as a parent participant on School Council.  I held a one year position on School Council last year and found the experience incredibly rewarding. I participated in sub-committees and supported the school in their efforts to assist our students with their academic and personal growth. My participation on School Council has also inspired my children to participate and volunteer their time for the benefit of their school.

I would like to continue my involvement on School Council the and as a parent support to our school through this avenue.
