Aerobics

Congratulations to the Year 7 aerobics team for winning the National Aerobics competition last week in the Gold Coast. What an amazing achievement for the girls who are new to aerobics at MGSC.

Year 8 Headspace

This Friday the Year 8s have their final presentation by Headspace called 'Looking Out For Your Friends: Notice, Ask, Connect. The session will cover:

  • Notice: identifying warning signs that a friend might not be OK
  • Ask: how to have difficult conversations and ask your friend if they are OK
  • Connect: how to help them find to the best support and make sure you are looking out for your own self-care

Thank you to Ms Mel Erwin for organising these sessions for the Year 8 cohort. They have been very informative and worthwhile.

Junior Lord Mayor

Last Wednesday, Zara Wilson, 7C, participated in the Junior Lord Mayor Finals. Zara had to speak in front of the following judging panel:

Lord Mayor, Sally Capp

Channel Nine TV reporter, Allan Raskell

Radio 3AW presenter, Denis Walter

13cabs head of client services, Simon Purssey

Melbourne Day Chairman, Campbell Walker

Australia Day Ambassador and Melbourne Day Committee member, Claude Lombard

Despite Zara speaking very well, she was not awarded the position for 2019. We are very proud of her achievement.  All of the speakers were amazing and all spoke with passion for how to make Melbourne a better place. The judges each had their favourites and commented on how difficult it was to choose just one. Sophie from Montmorency PS is the new Junior Lord Mayor. Thank you to Mrs Petra Witt for supporting Zara on the day.

Zara and some Year 7 students have been invited to attend the Melbourne Day Flag Raising Ceremony at Enterprize Park on Friday 30 August. There are many activities planned for the day. We can’t wait to see what the day brings!

Year 8 Friendship Day

On Friday 23 August eight girls from Year 8 participated in Friendship Day hosted at Pascoe Vale Girls' Secondary College.

Friendship Day is where the seven all girls' government secondary schools get together to celebrate friendship. There were some really fun activities including, tug of war, trivia and bookmark making. We even made a mural on cloth where we painted or drew things to do with friendship. We had lots of yummy snacks for morning tea, catered for by a Year 10 Food class at Pascoe Vale Girls', and we had sausages for lunch, which were delicious. We were supposed to have a guest speaker come to talk with us except she couldn’t make it so the Assistant Principal, from Pascoe Vale Girls' Secondary College, spoke to us about friendship instead which was very good considering he came up with his speech on the spot. Altogether Friendship Day was an awesome experience and was very fun. Thanks to Ms Holman and Ms Garrow who supervised and drove us there.
