Principal News

What a month!

We hope you are keeping safe, sane and well; or at least a combination thereof.  The past 4 weeks have definitely been something we will never forget.  Each day seems like 'ground hog' day.  And sometimes, we may even forget what day it actually is.

What do I know during these challenging times?

  • We miss routine, predictability and joy of what school brings to all of us.
  • We miss the smiles, hugs and hearing laughter down the corridor.
  • We miss the uniqueness we experience each and every day working with children and in education.
  • We miss you.

We are here if you need us.

Technology

We have been busy distributing technological devices to families who requested.  There are still some families who have not arranged pick up.

  • If your technology needs change eg. you now NEED a support device from school, please email cranbourne.south.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.
  • If you require any technical support, please contact itsupport@cranbournesouth.vic.edu.au

The hours of on site operation is 8.45 - 3.45pm, with only essential staff on campus.

  • Teaching and support staff on site are located in the Junior School Gallery space.  Recess and lunch break times are NOT bell generated.  Students on site are supervised with their learning, replicating a learning schedule at home eg. morning learning, break, middle morning learning, lunch, afternoon learning, home.
  • The office is NOT officially opened.  Any inquiries, deliveries or pick ups, please phone the school on 97822999 and you will guided with your inquiry.

Should we be conducting a health screen or check temperatures of those entering the school grounds?

DET continues to work closely with Department of Health and Human Services to ensure the Chief Health Officer and health experts’ advice is provided to schools and other education services regarding the COVID-19 response.

On the advice of health experts, there are no plans to implement an entry screening procedure in schools at this time.

There is no evidence to support temperature screening as an effective strategy in schools at this time.

Year 6 – 7 Transition Information

At the end of Term 1, the 2020 Year 6 – 7 Transition Information Packs for Schools and Parents/Carers became available for the 2020-21 transition period.  The Schools Pack, which contains a copy of the statewide timeline, is available to download -  Transition Year 6 to 7

The Parent/Carer Pack can be accessed from the Moving from primary to secondary school: information for parents web page. The Parent/Carer Pack contains the Application for Year 7 Placement 2021 form (the Application Form).

Due to the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19), slight adjustments to the statewide timeline have been made. These changes provide schools with more flexibility to distribute the Parent/Carer Pack while also providing parents and carers with an increased timeframe in which to return the Application Form; now due by Friday 29 May.

We understand that due to remote and flexible learning arrangements, government primary schools will be unable to distribute the 2020 Parent/Carer Pack to every Year 6 family in hard copy at the commencement of Term 2.

If you require a 2020 Parent/Carer Pack pack posted, please contact the school, Attention: Ms Colette Joannidis.

Child Safe

Child Safety while online

Standard 6: Strategies to identify and reduce or remove risks of child abuse

As we move to an environment where families and students will be learning remotely, safety in online environments becomes critically important.

The eSafety website  esafety:COVID19 has  information about helping children to develop good habits and supporting them while they are online.

The site covers three main areas

 How to monitor the situation

 How to stay connected

How to look after yourself

I would encourage all families to download and read the COVID-19 Global online safety advice for parents and carers.

Assistant Principal T2 leave postponed

Just a short note to let you know that I have not taken long service leave this term as previously stated in the last edition of the iNewsletter.   I have returned to my role as Assistant Principal and look forward to working with the school community to support our transition to remote learning and provide support to staff, students and families during this time.
