Climate Canons

Looking ahead

Going ever greener

On Monday, 6 December our Year 7 – 9 Climate Canons were involved in a planning and reflection session as part of the Independent Learning Week. Students reviewed 2021 and were extremely proud of their achievements this year including collecting more than 1300 cans, bottles and glass for Containers for Change, reducing our impact on landfill and raising funds for the College. We hope to at least double this amount in 2022.

Students’ education programs of Penguin Awareness Day, World Wildlife Day, Enviroweek, National Pollinator Week, National Recycling Week, World Oceans Day, just to name a few had a big impact on students becoming more aware of the world around them. The College’s involvement in Clean Up Australia Day engaged all students in becoming more mindful of their waste impact.

Our very talented Climate Canon Nadine Retallack designed our new logo and Climate Canons became more visible to the College community by our beautiful new badges. The official badges will be presented to students at an assembly in 2022.

One of the most exciting opportunities the Climate Canons engaged in this year was meeting Jeff Hansen, Director of Sea Shepherd Australia, and hearing from him the work he has done, from his humble beginnings to chasing whaling ships in the Southern Ocean. The students discussed achievable action and sustainability ideas for the future.

2022 holds lots of exciting opportunities for our Climate Canons as they continue to inspire, engage and motivate the College community to make positive, sustainable changes. We’d like to thank Fr Peter, the Leadership Team, the Parent Committee and the SRC for their on-going support of the Climate Canons.
