From the Principal

Simon Harvey

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and Friends of St Norbert College,

We commenced our final day of the year with a beautiful Thanksgiving Mass prepared by Mrs Palermo, Ms Kyd and celebrated by Fr Peter. This Mass is not just a celebration of the culmination of this year, but also an acknowledgement of the special time of Advent.

The end of any school year brings sadness, as we farewell much loved staff and students who move onto other schools or pastures and they all go with our best wishes. I would like to make special mention of the following staff who have served our community over many years;

Mrs Burgoyne

Mrs Burgoyne has played an invaluable role in the operational management of our College as the Assistant to our Deputy Principals. After 5 years as a student and then 13 years as a staff member, Mrs Burgoyne leaves us to take up a position at Seton Catholic College.

Mr McGrath

After 8 years as the Head of the Prémontré House Mr McGrath moves to Salvado College in Byford as a Deputy Principal. We congratulate Mr McGrath on this well-deserved appointment and thank him for his dedication to the penguins and to our students and staff.

Mrs Johnson

Mrs Johnson has been teaching at St Norbert College for 8 years in the English Learning Area most recently as our Literacy Coordinator but is moving next year to Christian Brother’s College Fremantle. We are most appreciative of Mrs Johnson’s efforts and wish her well in this new chapter.

Mr Nuske

After serving our College community for the past seven years, Mr Nuske is moving to a Mathematics teaching position at Chisholm Catholic College. We thank him for sharing his expertise and commitment to Maths, Volleyball and many others areas.

Mrs Gustafsson

Mrs Gustafsson is moving home to Bunbury after 5 years with us teaching Psychology and Science. She is well loved by her students, provided highly motivational learning experiences.

Miss White

Miss White, our Head of Year 7, will be taking her talents to La Salle College after seven years' as a valuable and versatile staff member. We thank her for all her hard work in transitioning our new students to the College each year, with a smile on her face.

Mr Lawson

Mr Lawson has been a quiet achiever at our College, serving in the role as Technologies Technician for the past 7 years. Recently Mr Lawson’s service was recognised with the Br Pat Medal for going above and beyond. We wish him well in semi-retirement and look forward to his services from time-to-time in the future.

Ms Frazier

Ms Frazier has served the College in a range of roles since 2013, most recently as our Home Economics teacher. We wish her well at Kennedy Baptist College.

Miss Hughes

Miss Hughes has recently accepted a position at Mackillop Catholic College in Busselton. We thank her for her commitment and promotion of Humanities over the past 2 years and for sharing her gifts and talents with us.

Ms Chalmers, Mr Keizer, Ms Miller and Mrs Vitler

These wonderful staff members have been with us in varying capacity over the past year, giving great service and commitment to our students and community. We thank them for their dedication and wish them well in their future endeavours. Of particularly special note is to Mrs Vitler who is eagerly expecting the arrival of her first child.

I would also like to acknowledge Mr D’Souza who will embark on Long Service Leave for Term 1 next year.

It is important to also acknowledge those students and families who finish their time at St Norbert College and move to other schools and endeavours. We thank you for your contributions to our College and hope that the memories gained and the friendships shared will be with you throughout your life ahead.

I would like to thank all in our community for your efforts in making 2021 another successful year, given the ever-present challenges and uncertainty of the waters we have had to navigate. This wouldn’t be possible without the help, support and cooperation of the whole community and St Norbert College is a very special community indeed.

As we celebrate the Advent season, we are reminder that it is a time of preparation for our hearts and minds for the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas.

I would like to wish all of our students, staff and families, the blessings of a happy and holy Christmas and a safe return in 2022. May God’s blessings of peace and love characterise your festive season.

I finish with the words from one of the Prayers of the Faithful from our Thanksgiving Mass that I feel captures the spirit of Advent and the spirit of our College motto of “prepared for all good works”.

“We pray for all of the families and friends that make up our St Norbert College community. May the spirit of the season of Advent, open our hearts to its message of goodwill to each other”

God Bless.

Mr S Harvey (Principal)
