Academic Excellence

Friendships in focus

Winning artists

In Term 4, the Academic Excellence students were asked to get their creative juices flowing. Their task was to show what the College value of Friendship means to them and how their friendships have helped them overcome problems.

Many students wrote poems, short stories, Powerpoint presentations and an original piece of art. The students are to be commended for their efforts, especially since the due date occurred around the time of many other assessments. It was nice to see the student’s perspective on friendship. I thank them for their honesty which explained how lovely it can be and how fragile some friendships are.

Congratulations to the students with the winning pieces: Artwork from Sheryl Matchado and a poem from Ann Baiju.

The Academic Excellence students also discussed the design of an Academic Excellence badge. They spent time researching the meaning of “excellence”; even down to colours that perceive excellence. We hope to finalise the design in the coming days in readiness for 2022.

2021 Academic Excellence Program

Students who wish to participate in the Academic Excellence Program in 2022 should look out for a direct message early next year. It will have the expression of interest form attached.

I look forward to another exciting year of watching the students grow in confidence and in their ability to problem solve.

Have Sum Fun Online

During the term, some Year 9 Mathematics Extension students competed against students around Australia in a Maths problem solving competition, Have Sum Fun Online, writes Sarah Abood:

"The 2021 Have Sum Fun Online competition was an excellent experience for all the students involved. The competition consisted of many difficult math questions that challenged us and required us to work together. Together we discovered innovative ways to solve problems. Have Sum Fun Online also encouraged us to develop teamwork skills and taught us how to communicate with a group. Our first team consisted of myself, Agna Aji, Jia Chen, Shelna Sony and Angela George. Our second team consisted of Logan Davis, Alex Mitchell-Lewis, Marley Kago and Josh Matthew. We were all so pleased with our results and are thankful to have had the opportunity to participate this year.’ '
