Guest Speaker, Lucy Bartholomew.
This week in the ‘Fight Like A Girl’ Amplify elective we were lucky to be joined Lucy Bartholomew.
Lucy is an Australian Ultra Marathon Trail runner. During our class, she shared her stories of running and resilience with us. Lucy spoke in depth of her sporting successes- running her first 100km race at age 14, as well as her most recent adventure, running the 231km Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory Australia. She also gave us invaluable insight into her personal accomplishments including, finding her identity & motivation, her personal journey with body image and self-esteem, and what she has learnt from overcoming hardships.
The aim of the ‘Fight Like a Girl’ elective is to embrace our identities as women, and to begin learning how to emotionally, physically, socially and mentally be the best version of ourselves.
Lessons are geared towards the creation of a ‘Toolbox’; a collection of tips and tricks students can implement into their own lives to assist them in navigating the ups and down that come with embracing who we are.
Students shared what ‘life tips’ they took away from Lucy’s session to add to their toolbox:
‘Don't worry about what other people think of you, you can't control what they think but you can control your attitude and your effort. Look after yourself over trying to get other's approval’- Amy
‘Not to worry about other people's opinions and to just be myself’- Jordan
‘What I took from today’s lesson is to wear what I want to wear and not care what other people think about how I look. I thank Lucy so much for that talk I really needed that motivation to push me mentally and physically towards what I want to achieve’- Jenny
If you would like to learn about Lucy and her journey completing the Larapinta Trail, you can watch her new movie ‘Running Out’ available on streaming services now.
