Murray River Camp Wrap

Murray River Camp Wrap

It has been 2 weeks now since the year nine camps returned and I can only speak for my crew on the Murray River Camp. What a great group, to bring this camp to life in such a short time, the students would normally use the beginning of term 4 to prepare for this camp but they rose to the challenge of becoming the least prepared and yet still achieve those milestones of the camp. Our longest day saw the group canoe and kayak a whopping 30 kilometers and learning that applying sunscreen was not enough to stop the burn. Some great quotes were made such as

“I woke on Wednesday and puked, great camp”

“this camp was very fun and a good bonding experience”

then there were my embellishments

“scared of trees, got to pee, saved the bees, oh yah to me”, “we had vomits and squirts but these were not our worst as Dayle struggled to see the sights of the Mighty Murray”

Each day a new challenge was presented to the group, setup tents, learn to cook on the stoves, cover up, avoid the sunburn, paddle the distance, Covid checkin in Tocumwal uses the NSW app not the Victorian app, Boats and Jetskis, “How many Koalas can you spot?” Total spotted for the Thursday leg of the trip was 28. Loading boats in the cold wet rain on Thursday night only to see the bus drive away before it might have been bogged in.

What a camp, the students learn so much and really take a lot from the camp. Thanks for another great time on the Murray.
