Australian Mathematics Competition

Maths Competition

Over 60 students sat the Australian Mathematics Competition back in August.

Unfortunately, the competition was conducted remotely due to the lockdown at the time, but we still had a number of students achieve outstanding results.

The competition consisted of 30 questions, arranged in order of difficulty. Students were required to complete as many as they could in 75 minutes of working time.

Students were invited to a special presentation ceremony in Rees House recently to receive their certificates as well as a summary of their performance on the competition.

Matthew Wang from Year 7 achieved the school’s highest result. Matthew was awarded a High Distinction and his result placed him at the 98th percentile, or in the top 2% of all students in the competition. Here is a Matthew receiving his certificate, along with Mr Oudshoorn and Mr Murphy. Congratulations Matthew.

A further ten students achieved a Distinction

Congratulations to:

· Hannah Lin (Year 7)

· Ritkriti Melam (Year 7)

· Huy Nguyen (Year 7)

· Jayvel Singh (Year 7)

· Natalie Walker (Year 8)

· Mattias Geary (Year 8)

· Braydan Mayoh (Year 8)

· Noah Johnson (Year 8)

· Katherine Styles (Year 8)

· Eric Lang (Year 12)

We had a further 21 students gaining a Credit with all other students receiving certificates of either Proficiency or Participation.

We look forward to seeing all these students, plus many more, participate in next year’s Australian Mathematics Competition.
