Throughout Term 4, Year 8 studied the drama text “Hitler’s Daughter”. The students have been busy learning about World War II and how drama texts work. 8.5 were able to make dioramas with their teachers choosing their own text then transforming it for the stage. Chosen texts included: Harry Potter, Tangled, The Night Garden, Finding Nemo, Five Feet Apart, Horror etc. They have done amazing and should be super proud of themselves.

HSIE

2021 has been another big year of learning in the HSIE faculty.  Our year 7 students have completed a year of learning both French language and about French culture; year 10 students have furthered their studies in French through the French elective course as have S

Stage 6 students.

In Geography, students have learned about Landscapes and Landforms, Water in the world, Urbanisation and world biomes and sustainability.  In History students have completed personal research projects.  They have learned about rights and freedoms movements in 20th century Australia and the USA, Australia’s involvement in World Wars 1 and 2, Feudalism in Europe and Japan and life in Ancient Egypt and China.

This week, students in 7HSIE2 completed a ‘brain dump’ of the things they have learned during their studies of Ancient China.

They also experimented with Willow pattern inspired by 14th Century Yuan and Ming dynasty traditions by designing on paper plates.

If you are looking for a game with that perfect energy expenditure to fun ratio, look no further than boules or as it is known in France,pétanque. You can play pétanque just about anywhere, on a large area covered in grass, thin gravel or sand. Each boule is made of metal and is between 7cm and 11cm india meter, weighing about 800 grams. In singles, each player has three boules, in doubles, each player has three boules and for triples, each player has just two boules. The jack (or cochonnet) is a small wooden ball around 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Normally a tool called a baguette is used to measure the distance between boules in close situations. Sajak Timalsena, 7.1 used an app called Measure, which did the job alot more accurately! The nearest boule to the cochonnet is always called the "best boule".Each player throws boules until that player runs out of boules or throws a boule that is best boule. Once a player achieves best boule, the next player on the opponents team plays in the same way. When a player runs out of boules, the next player in the same team takes over.Note that the first player therefore always throws just one boule before retiring from the throwing circle because the first boule is automatically best boule. When all the players in a team run out of boules, the opposing team finishes the leg by playing all their remaining boules in an effort to increase their score.Scoring is the same as for Lawn Bowls - the winner of the leg scores one point for each boule that is closer to the target than the opponent's best boule. The team that reaches 13 points first, wins.Today, to honour one of the rare sunny periods, Year 7.1 French had ago at playing pétanque on the tennis courts. It was a very competitive game which saw the winner in each of the 3 games played rewarded with a well-deserved chocolate. Pétanque is a great game, ideal for the Christmas holiday and one for the whole family! As we celebrate the birth of Christ our Lord, I wish you all a great family Christmas.

Mathematics

Mr Mark Harris

Well done to all the award winners last week at the school presentation day. It was great to be able to recognise the achievements of our Mathematics students for the year 2022. Even though we can only recognise a very few, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of all students, and their teachers, this year across all stages of Mathematics learning. It is fantastic to see students working to achieve their best and move their learning forward.

It has been an interesting year and we look forward to the chances that the holiday period brings. We also look forward to next year renewed and enthusiastic about its prospects and the wonderful learning that will be possible in the Mathematics KLA next year.

Thanks to the professional and committed Mathematics staff and all the students and Parents for your support this year.

Have a great Christmas and see you in 2022.
