Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have entered a very busy period of the school year, more so this year than many previous due to the compressed nature of schooling between ‘lockdowns’ this year. Teachers are trying to find time to complete testing and write the children’s reports on top of the everyday routines and tasks associated with teaching and caring for kids. We know too, that at this time of the year, the children can become more challenging to manage as they are tired and can sense a finish line, just around the corner.

We all know that our private lives also become more hectic at this time with preparations for Christmas and pre-Christmas celebrations and ‘catch-ups’ gobbling much of our down time, meaning we can feel rushed as the working week swings around again.

It can be a stressful time…and then you watch last night’s news and hear of the loss of four beautiful young children killed in a house fire in Melbourne over the weekend and reality crashes through.

How fortunate we are to be concerned about being busy at work or with social engagements. Kindness, generosity and gratitude build our communities and make us stronger together.

The 2000+ year old quotation from our Student’s Code of Conduct applies:

“Love one another

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

If you have love for one another,

then everyone will know that you are my disciples”

John 13: 34-35

BEGINNING 2022 Some early notice, 2022 will begin for our teachers on Friday January 28th with training and preparation. WE WILL NO LONGER BE TAKING TWO TESTING DAYS at this time of year.

Instead, next year we have planned to do some Professional training on Monday, January 31 and classes for the children will resume on TUESDAY FEB 1ST.

Please note this is different to the information that appears in the Foundation Handbooks that we have distributed to next year’s Foundation students.

STAFF NEWS This week we are very pleased to welcome a former student on to our staff here at Sacred Heart. Xavier McGlynn will be assisting our Maintenance Officer, Paul Richardson for one day per week as part of a traineeship Xav is undertaking. A very welcome addition who brings a smile to everyone’s face each day.

GRADE 6 CAMP The Grade 6 students and their teachers are heading to Halls Gap in the Grampians tomorrow. Our amazing staff are genuinely excited to be giving their students the opportunity to go away on camp together. I am very grateful to our teachers for this attitude as they sacrifice a couple of night’s away from their own beds to take on this responsibility.

QUEENSCLIFF EXCURSION Our Grade 1 children and staff enjoyed a fantastic day in Queenscliff last Friday following up their work on “Sea Creatures”.

Lots of fun and Learning Stuff took place I’m told.

GRADUATION Following a false start on the date and some worrying news last Friday, I am happy to report that our plans for our Grade 6 Graduating class are back on track.

Jubilee Centre at Trinity College from 6:00pm on WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 8TH.

All students regardless of their vaccination status or exact age are welcome to participate in our ceremony.

Given that we have a Graduating class of 71 students Covid-19 restrictions dictate that only the two parents of each student will be able to attend.

All adults MUST BE fully vaccinated to attend the Graduation Ceremony.

The ceremony will be ‘live-streamed’. The link for this will be published as it becomes available.
