Hannah Southwell announced bronze winner

Last night Hannah Southwell was announced as a Bronze winner in the Rowe Scientific Depth Study Award at the annual STA NSW Young Scientist awards.

As previously reported, Term 3 Issue 5 newsletters.naavi.com/issue/mMPgnoJ/edit/N9EAlrN , Hannah's scientific study on the biodiversity of birdlife in Urban and rural areas was entered into the competition and last it was announced that she had won an award. The awards criteria is for Year 11 and 12 practical investigations or secondary-sourced investigations that most effectively communicate how their depth study has enabled the student to develop and acquire a deeper knowledge and understanding of one or more clearly identified concepts.

Hannah is the first person to complete the new science extension course in our school and is currently the only student in the Yass network completing the course. For her next project in science extension she is liaising  with researchers from ANU and field researchers from Birdlife Australia to assist her in her project.

This is an excellent result for Hannah and our school. We are extremely proud of her efforts and excited to see the future project she is conducting in science extension next year.

Congratulations Hannah!
