Ms Mem Brougham's Address
Assistant Principal Infants (Relieving)
With only a few weeks left of school, we all must remember some basic safety rules that have been falling by the wayside a little bit recently.
Hats – many children are missing out on active play as they do not have a hat. As mentioned before, we have a small supply of 'spare' hats at school, however, there are not nearly enough to go around.
Please remember to send your child's school bucket hat, with their name clearly labelled each day.
Helmets – many of our children enjoy riding bikes and scooters to and from school – we have recently installed a new rack to fit them all in! Unfortunately, some children are riding without a helmet. Not only is this unsafe, but it is also against the law.
According to Road Safety NSW, bicycle riders are required by law to wear an approved helmet securely fitted and fastened. In NSW there are no exemptions from wearing an approved bicycle helmet – see roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au for more information. Please ensure your child has a properly fitted helmet every time they ride to school.
Kindy-Start Transition
What a wonderful day we had at school last Friday with our Kindy-Start students joining us for the whole day. Highlights of the day included baking gingerbread men with Ms Hawkins in the school kitchen and a tour of the school that included the playground, and finally being able to have a play on the equipment with the weather on our side!
Our Year 5 buddies joined us for the school tour and helped the youngsters in the playground – thank you to the buddies for doing such a fantabulous job of helping them settle into school life at Boorowa Central School.
Today is our final full day of Kindy-Start before our students join us for the real deal next year!
Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten students loved having the Kindy-Start students at school for the whole day, making them feel very grown-up indeed. They are looking forward to spending some time in the Year 1/2 classroom for a bit of a taster in the coming weeks.
We have enjoyed visiting the Ag Plot again, this time with Mr Rimmer. Students loved feeding the sheep by hand and checking out the new lambs. These are probably the best-fed sheep around! Kindy students also sorted through seed mixture to identify different seeds and planted some that will hopefully sprout before the school year is over.

2/3 Classroom
Year 2/3 have been busy with our learning over the last two weeks. We have almost finished reading 'James and the Giant Peach' together. We created a story map of the main events of the story. We made character profiles of each character in the story and then during our art lesson we made a giant peach being carried by seagulls across the ocean. This book has been a lot of fun to explore.
We also drew some sheep and 3 of our classmates brought in wool to glue on them to make our sheep look and smell real.

Mr Jason Stuart's Address
Assistant Principal Primary (Relieving)
It has been a busy and brilliant few weeks inside the primary classrooms. We had a visitor by the name of Mr McKenzie last week who ran a STEM workshop at the Innovation Centre. Wow! We spent the first hour designing and making rockets, and then we tested them out on the school oval. Some flew over 70 metres! It was a great workshop and the Innovation Centre made it so easy to complete. A reminder to all primary students that our PBL learning focus is: Follow instructions, first time, every time. If all students follow this direction, it will mean a safer and more positive learning environment for all students. I have had the pleasure of reading all of the student reports for primary students this past week, and it's good to see so many of our students making positive choices in regard to their learning and general behaviour.
4/5 Classroom
Year 4/5 have been busy starting off the last few units of work for the year! In English, we have started a unit on poetry. So far, we have been practising writing Haiku and Shape poems. It was a little tricky to keep to the 5,7,5 syllable structure of a Haiku but the students have done a fabulous job, as you can see in their work below. In mathematics, we have been learning about the 'order of operations' and are now revising length, area and perimeter.
We thoroughly enjoyed our rocket incursion last week with Mr McKenzie. It was such fun designing the rockets and seeing which would travel the furthest. There was a lot of excitement each time we had to count down and fire the rockets. We were very grateful that we were able to invite Mr McKenzie into our school and participate in this activity.

Year 5/6 Classroom
We are busily preparing for the end of the year and finishing off some of our major projects in our classroom. Year 6 had their Transition days last week and thoroughly enjoyed them. While this happened, some of our Year 5 students completed 'The Million Dollar Project', which allowed them to create a presentation on how to spend $1,000,000. Certain rules had to be followed, and the kids did a great job of maintaining a budget and researching their spending. We watched the film 'Wonder', which will now form the basis of our English learning as we write a comparison text and review both the movie and the book. In mathematics, we have finished almost all of our formal assessments, and we will now build on our project-based learning skills.
As the year winds down, all students must remember to wear the appropriate uniform each day. There will be many activities that are planned for outside in the nice weather, and all students need to wear a school hat each day. I look forward to our upcoming merit celebration day, presentation day and year six farewell!
