Principal's Address

Helmets on Bikes and Scooters

I need to appeal to the parents of the Boorowa Community to make every attempt to keep our school children safe. Whilst I see some students wearing helmets, I see many more who do not when travelling to and from school and when using the skate park. I remind these students that it is the law to wear helmets when operating a bike or a scooter. I highlight to them that if they were to have an accident, a helmet can protect them from acquiring a brain injury. I also make it very clear that brain injuries do not heal. However, the choice not to wear a helmet remains the same.

If you have a child of any age that attends Boorowa Central School and they ride a bike or scooter to school, please support their safety and wellbeing by purchasing them a helmet and insisting that they wear it whenever riding. They only get one brain.

Primary Captain interviews and speeches

Mr Stuart and I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing eight students in Year 5 this week. Each of these fine young men and women is vying to become the Primary Student Leaders for Boorowa Central School in 2022. They spoke about why they wanted to be school captain, what would make them a good school captain and what they would hope to achieve as school captain. Each of them spoke very well and had great answers.

All primary students then had the opportunity to listen to these eight students deliver their primary captain candidacy speech. The speeches were very well prepared, eloquently delivered and highly entertaining.

All of the eight students are excellent candidates. I am looking forward to working with the successful primary student leadership team candidates in 2022. To the unsuccessful candidates, commiserations but also a reminder that you can still be a leader in our school even if you don't necessarily have a title.

The speeches were recorded and can be viewed in this edition of the newsletter and on our school Facebook page.

The successful candidates will be announced on Friday afternoon and introduced to the community through the Facebook page next week.

NSW Police Commissioner – The top job for an ex-Boorowa Central School Student

Mrs Karen Webb was announced as the new NSW Police Commissioner yesterday – the first woman to step into the role. As an ex-Boorowa Central School student, I would like to think that our school helped shape the woman she is today and helped commissioner-elect Webb develop the foundation skills she so skillfully uses in her role. I wish her all the best for the challenge ahead and hope she inspires many more Boorowa Central School students to aim high.
