What year did you finish school?

Year 10 in 1999.

What are your memories of MSCW?

I remember enjoying the great variety of elective subjects. It felt like I could make school what I wanted it to be. The Merit program was also a fun way to expand on subjects I already had an interest in.

How do you think your experiences at MSCW helped you become the person you are today?

My experiences made me realise that I didn’t need to complete my schooling the same way as everyone else. I could follow my interests and be recognised for it.

Was there anyone at MSCW who had a positive impact and on reflection, influenced you to follow the pathway you have chosen?

Miss Sweeny for her attention to detail and focus communicating clearly, and Mr Ryan whose ability to take any maths subject and turn it into real world scenario was just amazing, practical and fun.

What did you do after leaving MSCW and where are you or what is your role now?

Straight into work at Aussie disposals, before getting an opportunity as a Production Assistant. From there, progressed into more senior roles before branching out as a partner in a new family business, Elite Pack. I now work as a General Manager, overseeing sales and production as well as day to day running of the business.

Greatest accomplishments and/or defining moments?

Multiple winner of multiple Business of the Year, as well as recognition through awards for Innovation and Manufacturing. It’s amazing to be recognised amongst our peers as a leading company, a reflection to the hard work and dedication that has been put in over the years.

What advice would you like to give any of our current MSCW students?

The old saying has a lot of truth in it – there is more than one way to skin a cat and a successful career is no different. You may not end up where you planned to be, with the job you hoped, or maybe the path to get there may not be as straight forward as you may have expected. None of that undermines your personal accomplishments, so take the time to build on your strengths and understand your weaknesses.
