VOLLEYBALL

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Senior and Intermediate boys and girls volleyball teams who won through the Division Zone and will now go on to represent the school at Region Level in their quest to be State Champions. In three out of the four finals played, Kew A ended up playing Kew B so in actual fact, Kew took out first and second places. Well done to all those who participated and good luck for the next round.

Beach volleyball

This year Kew High School participated in the Victorian Schools Cup Beach Volleyball tournament which was held on South Melbourne Beach. The tournament was played over three days with Year 8s participating on Wednesday, Years 9 and 10 on Thursday and Years 11 and 12 playing on Friday. The weather was perfect each day and this allowed students the opportunity to enjoy playing on the sand without too much impact from the elements. Teams consisted of either pairs or fours and each day Kew High School came away with a silver medal in what were all very close finals. Well done to all the students who participated and especially to:

-          Nick Vines, Cody Lawson, Vivian Blackmore-            Moore, Datjin Harrison (Year 8 boys - silver                medallists)

-          Danny Loats, Anton Jensen (Year 9 boys'                     pairs - silver medallists)

-          Marcus Vaiano, Xavier Molyneux, Joe Post,               Ruby Hooke (Year 12 boys/girls - silver                           medallists)

Students' views

Being a part of the volleyball team builds character. It teaches you to be able to handle yourself under a lot of pressure, and how to work in a team. For a team to be successful everyone in the team has to be committed and willing to put in time and effort. It is also a lot of fun and will make your high school experience that much more special.

To become a part of the Volleyball team you must not only be committed, but you must always try your hardest to do the best you can. Being committed to your team means that you must attend all training and competitions. As one of the coaches said, “Training is very important to make your team the best it can be."  This is what makes Kew teams formidable contenders at competitions.

This year the four elected Volleyball captains are, Harry Hunter, Marcus Vaiano, Arnold Learner and Elanna Vaiano. These captains are responsible for creating fundraisers to reduce fees for competitions and for helping to organise volleyball sporting events. This year they may also be introducing a volleyball camp which will be a full day of volleyball.
