PUBLIC SPEAKING

Debating

In 2014 there has been lots of interest in debating, with over 55 students signing up for a debate team.  Co-curricular workshops,  Introduction to Debate and Advanced Debate Technique,  were held in Term 1 to prepare our teams for the Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV) contest. We are discovering some great new talent joining our team this year.

We have three debate leaders this year: Rohan Hurst, Kolya Haisken-De New and Lily Xia, who will assist in coaching junior debaters and teams and have already held a demonstration debate.

Round 1 of the DAV competition saw three of our five teams win their debates, with best speakers on the night: Rohan Hurst, Aidan Hurst (and James Damatopoulos with an equal score) and Finn Von Bibra.

Senior Public Speaking

A contest held in the last weeks of term provided an opportunity for our keen senior students to refine and develop their public speaking skills. Congratulations to Rose Wood, Year 12, our 2014 Kew High School Senior Public Speaking Champion.  Rose's speech "Marriage equality" delivered with conviction on the inconsistencies of marriage laws in society.
