French and Media Collaboration

Documenting Australian school life
As part of our ongoing E-pal project with a Belgian school, we have progressed from exchanging e-mails with our E-pals, to creating videos to share various aspects of Australian school life. In French class we wrote our scripts, to talk about the uniform, what we eat and when, subjects we study, extracurricular activities, friends and what a typical day is like for us down under. For the filming, we were extremely lucky to have Mr Ashton from the media department come and help us. Not only were we able to use state of the art equipment to make our movies but Mr Ashton joined us for several periods to show us how to use the equipment, how to edit and how to create the best short films.
I really enjoyed using the fancy cameras. I thought it was really cool to test out the tripod and I enjoyed doing a bit more creative/fun work for the end of year.

As the French teacher I went and enquired about the possibility of students using the equipment available in the design hub. Mr Ashton enquired about our project and then very generously offered his time and expertise. This collaboration transformed an idea into a true cross-curriculum project. Collaborations like these allow us to provide unique opportunities to our students who thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. We are eagerly awaiting the videos from our Belgian E-pals and cannot wait to hear what they think of ours!
