Instructional Coaching for Teacher Leaders

Developing a coaching framework for our school

Two of our strategic goals are to maximise student growth and improve student agency. In pursuit of these goals, members of our leadership team have participated in a two-day workshop to improve their skills as student-centred coaches and to develop a teacher coaching program for 2022. This has come about because members of our leadership team applied for a leadership scholarship to fund the development of a coaching framework for our school.

They have learnt about a coaching approach called The Impact Cycle by Jim Knight, where coaches partner with teachers to analyse the current reality in their classrooms, set goals, identify, and explain teaching strategies to hit the goals, and provide support until the goals are met. This instructional coaching approach supports teachers to meet the needs of their students. Our leaders are looking forward to working with our staff on maximising student growth and improving student agency through instructional coaching in 2022.
