Soccer Friendlies

Darebin Division friendly competition

After missing out on our regular inter-school tournament due to lockdowns earlier in the year, the students who had tried out for soccer back in August finally got to run out in their Northcote shirts for a series of friendly games against local schools.

Last Friday the year 7/8 soccer teams went out to play an inter-school tournament. Both teams played incredibly well despite the warm weather. The girls team played 2 games against Lalor and Thornbury and won both of them convincingly. The first game against Lalor was a 12-0 win with three players, Lyla, Emily and Indi, scoring a hat-trick (3 goals). The next game was against Thornbury and was a 7-0 win, leaving the Northcote girls the winners of the tournament. It was an overall fun, successful day.

On Friday the year 8 boys soccer team travelled to DISC to square off against other school teams from the Darebin area. The games were played in good spirit and the players relished the opportunity to finally play some interschool sport.

The team gelled together quickly, especially given there were a few year 7 students who had been selected to play for the year 8 team.

The team produced some extraordinary goals and worked hard in each match. The day concluded with a hard fought draw against a talented Thornbury High outfit, a fitting way to end the friendly competition.
