Volleyball Victoria School Championships

Silver medal finish!

Congratulations to the year 9 boys on finishing with a silver medal at the Volleyball Victoria Schools Championships. The boys started strongly on their first day, winning both games in 2 sets, against Caulfield Grammar School and Nossal High. They continued their winning streak against Upwey High School 2, which they also won in straight sets. This placed the boys at the top of the ladder, with 2 matches to come. 

On the third day, the boys suffered their first loss, against Westall Secondary College. After a tough loss in the first set, the boys fought their way back to win the second. However, the winning streak came to an end in the third set, after a 2 point loss, 13-15. 

Though disappointed, the boys collected themselves and worked hard to beat Upwey 1 in their final round robin match in straight sets, 2-0. With 4 wins and 1 loss, the boys finished on top of the ladder due to their high percentage, putting them straight through to the gold medal match.

On the final day of the tournament, the boys were up against Westall Secondary College, for the gold medal match. After losing the first set 23-25, the boys fought hard and won the second set, 25-23. Unfortunately, they lost the third set, 8-15, walking off proud with a silver medal.

We as coaches are super proud of the boys, as they have improved drastically since their last tournament and are a much more cohesive playing group. Whilst there was disappointment among the group, the boys should not discredit themselves, as they all played a fantastic tournament and have all improved so much throughout the course of 4 days. A special shoutout to Matt, who was unable to play due to a broken wrist, for coming to the tournament each day to support his team, his encouragement and dedication definitely made a difference. A big thank you to Ms Jacobs, Ms Hales, Mr Price and (especially) Pauline for supporting the boys, and organising transport to and from the stadium, your support was heavily appreciated! Congratulations to Aaron, Fred, Connor, Moses, Jack, Zac, Simon and Luke on finishing second, you all played an amazing tournament and should all be super proud of yourselves! We hope to see you all in 2022!
