Student Services Wellbeing

Happy Holidays!

As 2021 draws to a close, we invite you to join us in reflecting on the year that was. Every year, the Student Services Student Wellbeing team is blown away by the resilience and camaraderie of our students. Despite slightly more remote learning than any of us might have been anticipating (and, yes, perhaps a few less events and nights out than we’d have liked!) students at NHS have, yet again, rallied and made the most out of this year.

We have had the enormous privilege of working with many of you this year – we’d like to say a big thank you to all the students who have joined us along the way. We have loved having students participate in our programs (ICAN, Raise mentoring, support groups, meetings, focus groups, celebration days and big conversations about what matters to you), and would like to thank students for their enthusiasm and curiosity – you have taught us so much this year! To the students who have trusted us and shared their confidences – we want to thank you for your honesty and openness and remind you that there is support available over the holidays (see below).

We wish all students, staff and families a safe and happy holiday.

What a bunch of legends

Earlier this term, Northcote High School celebrated Mental Health Week. This important week shines a spotlight on mental health, and how important it is that we prioritise our own mental health, look out for our friends and family and work together to break down mental health stigma.

We know that COVID, lockdowns and remote learning have been tough for some – but they haven’t been entirely without their silver linings. Many students have reported how much they valued connection with others (whether through face time, a stroll around the block together or a zoom hang) during lockdown. This Mental Health Week we wanted to recognise those people – our Lockdown Legends. These were the people that were there for us through thick and thin this year, from mates who made us laugh, to teachers who kept us engaged, and those people who just made lockdown that bit brighter - 2021 wouldn’t have been the same without our Lockdown Legends

All lockdown legends received a certificate of appreciation for their kindness, energy and enthusiasm. Please see below for a selection of this year recipients – well done legends!
