Cycling End of Year Christmas Ride

On Wednesday 1st December the 2022 Cycling Academy students journeyed up the steep ascent of Harrisons Road in search of the Cherry Farm at the top of the hill. In the hot conditions the group of over 40 riders dug deep on the first steep climb to regroup at the top with a well earned drinks break and recharge with some lolly snakes. Then it was on to the “Fairy Climb” where students were challenged to get up a tricky technical climb with tight switch backs.

When we rolled into the destination a rumbling of thunder was heard as a summer storm began to build, creating a dramatic atmosphere, as the group was introduced to Simon Easy the owner of the Ripe and Ready Cherry Farm. He then took us on a tour of the cherry farm where the students sampled some cherries picked straight from the trees. A big thank you to Simon for allowing us to gorge on the delicious fruit and with a belly full of cherries we soaked up the atmosphere of the farm before refilling the water bottles in preparation for the descent back to school.

The summer storm missed us as we headed back down the trail to school. The high-speed descent was a highlight for everyone as the students negotiated the long grass and trees on the way back down Harrisons Road before returning to school for a late lunch on the grass outside the bike shed. A thoroughly enjoyable end to the year for the entire cycling crew.
