Principal's News

Week 5 in Review

  • Congratulations to Ingrid and Heath (Year 6) for being awarded this year's Higgin's Medal. The Higgin's medal is an annual award recognising students who excel in their studies and extracurricular activities, show strong leadership amongst their peers, and provide exemplary service to the school community. Two students from each school in Higgins are awarded the Medal. The staff at St Joseph's nominate worthy recipients, and this year it was exceptionally difficult to choose just two nominees; I wish we could have given 24 awards! Ingrid and Heath were nominated for the following reasons:

Heath:

Throughout 2022 Heath has been an exemplary student, his work is always completed to the best of his abilities; he treats his peers and teachers with respect and models consideration and compassion to the younger students.

At the end of 2021, Heath was elected to the role of Sports   Captain and has carried out his role diligently, suggesting improvements where applicable and modelling good sportsmanship to his peers.

Since Year 3, Heath has represented the school in numerous inter-school sporting events including; bowling, swimming, football and soccer to name but a few.

Since Year 4, he has participated in the Maths Olympiad at St Joseph's and showed tenacity and resilience when completing complex mathematical problems.

The teachers at the school couldn't speak more highly of Heath,  particularly of his attitude and commitment during 2021 with all the challenges this year has brought.

Ingrid:

Throughout the last two years, Ingrid has demonstrated strong leadership skills and at the end of 2020, she was nominated to the position of School Captain. She has fulfilled this role with diligence and on many occasions has gone over and above what was expected to benefit her peers. She used her own time to compile and edit videos in both 2020 and 2021 for our incoming Prep students and has regularly put herself forward to assist staff members and other students.

Ingrid is also involved in the wider life of the school and has participated in the Maths Olympiad for the last four years; being the top achieving student in 2020 and 2021. She has represented the school in sporting activities on numerous occasions and has performed in our biannual ‘Instrumental Music Concert'.

100 Days of (onsite) Prep!

Thank you to Aimee, Georgie, Nancy, Joanne and all the parents who made Wednesday such a special day for our preps- they had an absolute ball being able to celebrate this milestone in person.

It was also wonderful to have our new preps onsite for their 3rd orientation day. Thank you to Georgie, Amanda, Faye, Nancy and all other staff who assisted on the day.  A special thank you to Siobhan and Martin Byford, plus parent volunteers, who ran the second-hand uniform stall during the orientation day. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Friday Vibes

Thank goodness we have our children back onsite! It is such a relief to be able to get back to normal and today we celebrated with a special treat and an extra-long skipping/ dancing session. Thank you to our Year 6s who helped to serve the treats (maybe the bonus of extra frozen yoghurt was a drawcard!).

First Holy Communion

It is with such relief that we can finally go ahead with First Holy Communion for our Year 3s and 4s. Thank you to Fr Alan (and well done) on his patience navigating the ever-changing covid landscape and the restrictions on church attendance. A special thank you to Amanda Jackson (RE Leader), Ms Dawes and Mrs Smith for their work in preparing the children to receive the sacrament.

This weekend we have the following students making their First Eucharist; Cataleya Muljiadi, Amelia Wells, Joseph Gerrand, Ethan Hassett, Adhithi Tissera, Alexis Webb, Hamish Beedell, Dylan O’Flynn, Ryan Scott, Xavier Bare, Noah Guirguis, Gabriele Nucci and Annie McNamee.

Wishing you all a restful weekend, hopefully with plenty of sunshine.

Take care,

Michelle
