jesus' home

No one doubts that Julius Caesar was a real figure who lived and rule the Roman Empire, but did you know there is actually much more historical evidence for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth than Julius Caesar?

From a purely historical perspective we have multiple primary sources; we know who Jesus’ parents were, where and when he was born, the four geographic locations he grew up in, the types of houses from that era, we even can surmise the general "tradie" work that Jesus was born into via his own father!

As a student of ancient near east history there is absolutely know doubt that Jesus existed.

That is important for both religious and non-religious people to realise - but for different reasons.

For the non-religious, the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth isn’t just some made-up fairytale. He was a real flesh-and-blood person who made some bold claims about God!

For those of us who are religious, we need to be reminded that Jesus Christ isn’t just truly God in person, he is also truly human (as Martin Luther put it). Jesus was born, lived in a family, moved house several times (once as a migrant/refugee), grew up, learnt a trade and experienced both the joys and sorrows of our existence.  For us he is “God in Human shoes”. Its why Christmas is such a big celebration for us. There’s lots of opportunities at Good Shepherd to hear about it this year - so make the most of it!
