Year 3/4 News Athletics Day

By Antonio, Harry and Lachlan (3/4L)

Everyone was very excited to do the first athletic day in two years due to Covid which was at the track in Newport , everyone wore their bright team sport colour. Everyone had a very fun day at the Newport athletic track running, jumping and throwing. All the 4 teams did really well and chanted very loud. Everyone had very good sportsmanship. It was very fun going to a new track as we usually go to the track in Aberfeldie Park. My favourite activity was the 100 hundred metre sprint  because I love running. We all also got into our house colours and did a relay race which GREEN WON!!!!!!. The high jump was also very fun and  very close in the age 8 and 9s boys and girls.

It was pouring rain at the Newport Track, everyone was really cold and we had a blast there! First of all, there are 4 teams Red, Gold, Blue and Green and we do 6 different activities. They were 100 metres, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and hurdles. Students from Bay Side helped to score and help kids do the activities. For our age group, we had a reduced size of the hurdles and the high jump bar. I was in the under 10’s group with Lachie, Seb C, Seb P, Eva, Harper, Leo J, Leo C, Oliver and Adelie. Firstly we did the relay & we teamed up with all our teammates and took the baton and passed it onto our teammates. When we finished, we sat done but Green won. Secondly  we started with Shot put I got 1.1 metres and I came 5th and Seb C won. Thirdly we did 100 metres. I came 3rd and I just bet Oliver by 10 centimeters. But Seb C won again. Fourthly we did Hurdles where first of all you had to compete in a Heat. I came 1st in my heat, but in Heat 2 I came 4th and Lachie won for my team! In high jump got eliminated in the first round and Oliver won in Heat 2. We also got to do long jump. It was a draw in heat 1 against Lachie & I, so we did Heat 2. Lachie beat me by 1 centimeter and I got 2nd place. We also did discus and I came 5th in it with 7 metres. And that's really it we don't know who won Sports Day yet, so good luck to every team on this!  GO RED!

It was so hard to do the shot put. It was really heavy and last time we couldn't do athletics day because of covid. My favorite was the hurdles. I won by about ten seconds. I wish we could do it last year. I had so much fun!!!

Biggest Morning Tea

By Audrey, Eilish, and Harper :)  (3/4L)

A sip of tea can turn into a whole school morning tea! Tomorrow we would have had a delicious cup of milk and some teddy bear biscuits with the rest of our school. We would have dressed up as something starting with T or something to do with tea eg. tea bag, tea pot, tiger. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our biggest morning tea…. But at least we still got to eat the biscuits on Thursday! Delicious!! 🥤🍶⛾ have a great day! Bye! :)

Sports Day

By Julien and Owen

Sports day is a day we've all been waiting for because we missed it last year due to lock down. It is a day of chants and having loads of fun outside. A day of  having a go at things maybe you won't be good at but give it your best shot. From shotput to discus and hurdles to the 100 meter sprint and the one and only high jump and last but definitely not least, the long jump. The weather stopped us a little during the day but we continued on. Our favourite event was high jump but I also really liked hurdles. It was so fun because I could jump so high. It was fun but we had to do shotput in the rainy cold weather. Long jump was my least favorite because sand got in my shoes and shorts.

SPORTS DAY

By Leo & Nadav

Yesterday was a day we were all so excited about because of the athletic day, since we missed it last year due to lockdown. It was ruined because of rain and the freezing cold weather. We had fun and we did a lot of activities.

Reconciliation

On Tuesday 18th May, the Year 3 students and their parents participated in a Reconciliation Workshop. It was facilitated by Mr Frank Servello. It was a beautiful night where students and their parents could  discuss times of forgiveness, parents could share stories of their childhood memories of  their First Confession and we could all deepen our understanding of the sacrament.

It was an engaging and relaxed evening. Please keep these Year 3 children in your prayers as they continue the preparation for their First Reconciliation on Wednesday 16th June.

Year 5/6 Excursion

On Friday 21st May, the Year 5/6 classes attended an excursion in the CBD.  We got the train from Yarraville station to Flinders St station.  From there we walked to Federation Square where we met out tour guide for the day.  The guides took us for a Walking tour of Melbourne where they explained the history of iconic places in Melbourne, such as: Birramung Mar, Degraves Street, National Bank on Collins St, The Block Arcade 1891, The Royal Arcade, Union Lane, Presgrave Lane etc...

The highlight of the day was getting a milk chocolate frog from Haig's Chocolatier.

A great day was had by all.
