Primary Years Program at GGLPS

GGLPS teaches the Australian curriculum using the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate as a framework to impart this. There are many different aspects to the Teaching and Learning program of the school and these are some of the rich learning experiences in which the students are involved.

Student-Led Conferences

Parents and caregivers are invited to the school in the last week of the term for Student-Led Conferences (SLCs). These will be held on Tuesday, June 22nd, and Wednesday, June 23rd. Parents are asked to book an hour timeslot for each student to spend sharing their learning within their classroom and specialist areas.

SLCs provide a wonderful opportunity for students to share their learning with their family members. They are one way we work with students to report on their learning. The aims of SLCs are:

  • For students to share their learning with their parents in a variety of ways
  • For parents to engage with, and understand, some of the many ways in which their children learn
  • For students to share their goals, achievements, and future areas of growth

Being able to do this within the classroom environment can be challenging for some and an embraced opportunity for others. We encourage you to respond to your child’s level of comfort so that they feel supported and able to do their best.

Parents and caregivers, we ask that you support your children by:

  • Giving your child your full attention. To assist with this, GGOSH will be providing supervision for siblings so that adults can focus on their child’s presentations and learning
  • Encourage students to confidently share. Praise the effort that students have put into their work with an emphasis on the process of learning over the final product
  • Asking questions related to the student’s learning and enable them to show that they have knowledge and understanding to share with you
  • Enjoy spending time with your child in their classroom. When they know that you value their school, classroom, and learning, they will also value these things

Students will prepare to share their learning in a variety of learning areas within their class. There will also be opportunities for families to visit the specialist classrooms (and spaces in terms of PE). Please note that the specialists’ rooms cannot remain open after 6.30, so we ask that you plan to visit beforehand if you are involved in an SLC during the 5.30 – 6.30 timeslot.

Bookings can be made via the school website.

We pray that you will enjoy sharing time and learning with your children and look forward to seeing you in Week 9.
