Library News

Welcome to Term 2

We have some exciting things happening this term in the library space. Later this term, some new booth seating will be arriving, along with some new shelving. We will be removing the fixed desks along the senior end of the library to allow for a more flexible arrangement of furnishings that will suit our students’ needs. Our Years 7 and 8 English classes have been visiting the library once a fortnight for sustained reading which has encouraged more senior students to borrow and read for leisure. It has been very encouraging to see these students welcome quiet reading time where they are engaging in reading for pleasure.

We received a wonderful supply of new items from Scholastic due to the generosity of families purchasing books from Scholastic Book Club in Term 1. All purchases provide the school with points to select new items for the library. A group of Stage 3 students gathered last week for our first Book Club of the year. The students read 'His name was Walter’ by Emily Rodda which won the CBCA book award for young readers last year. Over hot chocolate and snacks we discussed facets of the book and their thoughts about it. It was great to spend time with these keen readers in a different context and delve deeper into texts and hear their opinions on elements of the story.

Many of our Years 3 - 6 students have been busily reading and adding book titles to their Premier’s Reading Challenge list this year, with some students already having completed the challenge by reading 20 books before the end of August. Students receive a merit card, a keyring and certificate from the NSW Premier if they complete the challenge.

Each term, I will be displaying a poster that includes the library statistics from the last term.

And last, but not least, please remember that you can borrow Ebooks and Audiobooks from home on your own device through the NCS Borrow Box Library.
