12C -AROUND THE TRAPS

Maths

This week the Maths focus is shape recognising, classifying and drawing familiar two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects using obvious features.

Literacy

Last week we had been working on writing letters that include simple features such as greetings, questions and a farewell. This week we are adding a persuasive component to our letters. Students have enjoyed writing letters myself and Miss Avery asking for some subtle changes around the class and school, such as a foam pit inside and a heated indoor swimming pool.

In reading, we have been practising being able to remember and retell the main events that happen in the books we read.  We have been using the 5 Finger retell strategy to help us, setting, characters, problems, events and solution.

RE

This week, we celebrate the wonder and beauty of God’s presence in people and the world around us. We have also been looking at the Sacraments specifically the sacraments of initiation, Baptism, Communion and Confirmation.

Inquiry

Our new Inquiry Unit is called Through Generations where students will focus on History and Interpersonal skills.  We will use knowledge about what has changed and what has stayed the same to prepare for the future.

Georges Marvellous Medicine

Our class novel this term has been Georges Marvellous Medicine. We had a go at making our own Marvellous Medicine, there were some very interesting ingredients that went in and the potion went through many changes. When we had finished making the mixture we tried it out on some objects with varying degrees of success. First, we put it on a basketball which went flat straight away.  The second thing we tried was putting it on a tree stump, which on inspection the next day showed signs of growth.
