Digital Technolgies

The past few weeks have been busy for STEM at Kilbreda.

On Saturday 11 May we had two teams of Year 10 students attend Monash University’s Women in Stem Entrepreneurship program. Our students worked with female students and leaders from Monash University to develop  and present a programmable project - let’s hope they make it to the next round! Well done, girls, we are proud of your achievement.

Monash WISE program

Recently we went to a program run by Monash University about women in entrepreneurship and STEM. We heard from speakers on how to pitch an idea and worked the entire day to create a device which can solve a problem. To make the device we used an open source hardware called a Micro-bit. Once we created our device we had to pitch our idea and sell the product. Overall, it was a really empowering and beneficial day. We learnt a lot about not only STEM, but pitching and persuading an audience. It was amazing to be surrounded by a group of women who had the same interest and passion towards technology. We also got to eat donuts, so that was pretty great!

The Monash WISE program was a great experience. It gave us the chance to learn about being an entrepreneur and how to develop and present a pitch. We are hoping both of our Kilbreda teams make it into the second round and eventually win the trip to America! We had fun creating and building on our Micro-bit project, Petnet. We wish our opponents the best of luck in attempting to beat us! GO KILBREDA!
