Year 7

Wellbeing at Year 7

During the pastoral period this week, discussion centred around tips on happiness, promoting self-acceptance, resilience and psychological flexibility. The session was developed using resources and information from Access EAP.

The main ideas:

Stop the comparisons:

There will always be people who appear to have more “things” than we do; constantly trying to catch up to them prevents us from living our own life to the fullest.

Commit to seeing life in a positive way:

Thinking optimistically is a skill that can be learned, and this type of thinking helps to improve our experience of happiness.

Move that body:

Find a suitable activity for you; walking, swimming and yoga are great when it comes to relieving stress.

Other points to consider:

  • Get the hard tasks finished first
  • Listen to music
  • Spend time with people who make us happy and laugh
  • Spend time outdoors
  • Read great books
  • Enjoy time with pets.
  • Work on healthy sleeping patterns.
  • Turn screens off before bed
  • Use mindfulness apps

Lastly, pay it forward: Acts of kindness and generosity can do so much more for the giver than the receiver so if someone reminds you how kind people can be, pay it forward and spread it to someone else.

HOMEWORK HELP

We are very conscious that at this time of the year students are busy with assessments in most subjects.  The school is always willing to work with the students to help organise their work and reduce their stress. If you are feeling overwhelmed about schoolwork please come and use the Library, your teachers, Year 7 homework help on Tuesday lunchtime, come with your friends - get together and make the work fun.
