Languages

Over recent weeks, students have been working hard to prepare for their examinations and assessment tasks in all Languages classes.

Year 9, 10 and 11 Italian students have been working on learning their poems for the 2019 Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition. 30 students will represent Kilbreda on 18 June at the University of Melbourne.  We wish the girls the best of luck for the competition.

The senior Languages students have been partaking in Oral Language practice with Mr. Hideaki Sakurai and Ms Domenica Tarquinio.  Each week the Year 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to attend individual speaking sessions to familiarise themselves with VCE Unit 3 and 4 oral exam techniques.  Students are given ongoing feedback to assist them in their preparations for their final oral exam.

This week we are fortunate to have two articles written by Year 8 and Year 10 students about the Italian experiences held during the Languages Week.

“MISSION GNOCCHI” with Mario Cicitta and James Liotta

On Wednesday 15 May, we had an Italian performance by Mario and James called ‘Mission Gnocchi’, which made us laugh our heads off!

During the show, we were challenged to find out how to say some words in Italian as the two comedians showed us how to make gnocchi. We learnt about Italian culture and what they eat. They spoke a lot of Italian but translated it into English.

Having them come out to our school and speaking Italian for Languages Week was a different way for us to learn. They included really relevant jokes that we could relate to. It was a really entertaining show and a fun way to learn different Italian words, as well as getting the audience involved in the show.

I think we all learnt a lot from this slapstick show. It was funny and a good laugh and we all enjoyed it.

Alta Moda Fashion Show

The Alta Moda Italiana Fashion Show was a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone, both teachers and students. It was an activity organized by the Year 10 Italian students for Languages Week, as an inclusive and overall entertaining experience built for the whole Kilbreda community, not only students of Italian.

It was very much a success and a big thank you to all of the teachers who participated, Ms Radford, Ms Cristiano, Ms Dunne, Mr Ellett, Signora Calgaro and Signora Weberruss. The teachers showed up in their very fashionable and funny outfits to then model on a catwalk in the auditorium.

We are glad that the show turned out to be such a success and can’t wait to see what next year’s Languages Week has in store.
