First Day Procedures

The first day of school is an exciting and busy experience.  Below you will find our process for the first day and we hope that this information will help everyone have a smooth start to the year.  

We understand that there are times when students and families feel disappointed or concerned with the placements.  We wish to reassure you that staff have worked hard to create classes that are balanced in terms of gender, student strengths and needs and social dynamics.  We have also reviewed the parent input forms to coordinate classes for this school year.  As adults, we lead by example at Northlea to show an encouraging and optimistic outlook about the classes for each year and we appreciate your partnership with this positive adult modelling.  If there is something important that you feel should be discussed with an administrator, please stop by the office after 10 am or email me at barbara.sandler@tdsb.on.ca.   

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students and parents convene in the SOUTH GYM between 8:35-8:45.  The names of the classroom teachers will be shared in the South Gym during this time frame.

Grades 1-6

Our Grade 1-6 students will convene at 8:35 am at the back soccer field where there will be tables set up on the track.  Parents, please approach any table to find out your child's class and teacher for the year. Each table will have a complete alpha list and families can choose their preferred line-up.  After you know your child's teacher, please look for that teacher.  The classroom teachers will be holding signs with their names at the back of the school.  **In the event of rain, please go to the North Gym.  

Grades 7 & 8

Our Grade 7 and 8 students are asked to arrive at school at 9:30 am and enter through the North Gym door.  Only Grade 7 and 8 students will be able to enter the gym.  The gym will be locked until 9:30.  We will have class lists posted in a few spots throughout the gym and then staff will direct the students to their classes.
