Assistant Principal News

Over the last 2 weeks students in years 10-12 have been busily preparing for, and completing, their mid year exams.  Feedback from all exam supervisors was that students were prepared, extremely well behaved & took their exams seriously.  Thank you to all staff for their hard work in preparing students and supervising these exams.

We have recently seen an increase in students out of uniform (including hoodies, PE uniform on non PE days and facial piercings).  All students should be in full winter uniform as per the College uniform policy. If you child is out of uniform please provide them with a note explaining the reason why and an expected date they will be in the correct uniform.  Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the uniform policy http://www.cesc.vic.edu.au/images/Documents/Policies/CESC-Uniform-Policy.pdf.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break and I look forward to seeing you in Term 3.

Penni Roe

Assistant Principal 10-12

VCAL Homework Club

During Term 2 VCAL Homework Club will run once a week after school from 3:10 to 4:10pm. This will mostly be on a Monday but will take place on a Thursday three times during the term. Dates for Term 2 VCAL homework club are below. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to come along and receive extra support with their schoolwork. It is very important that your child works productively during these sessions and maximises the time available. This will be a supervised session where one or more VCAL teachers will be available to help students with their work. Permission forms can be obtained from Yr. 11 office or Vanessa Mohr’s office.

Literacy

This term Year 11 VCAL students are studying ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ in Literacy. The goal of this book is to expand students understanding of diversity and difference. As part of this learning program students visited the Holocaust Museum on June 7th. Students had the amazing experience of hearing from a  survivor of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp. Jack was the only surviving member of his family and touched the heart of many of our students. We are sure this is a story of overcoming adversity that our students will not soon forget.

Personal Development Skills

This term our VCAL students continue their community projects. The Year 11's are assisting to facilitate an oral language program with 144 preps at Cranbourne East Primary school, working to improve the literacy skills of the communities smallest members of the education system - and assisting to engage these young students in a memorable and enjoyable school experience. What a great way to begin their school life. Thank you to our community.

Work Related Skills

The majority of our students are now undertaking a work placement as part of their industry specific training. It is important that all students are now completing their provided Log Book as part of this process as this will ensure a positive assessment of their Work Related Skills Unit 2 subject.

VET Tasters

Business & Events and Business Enterprise

On Thursday May 24th the VET Business students ran a fundraiser for ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’. This involved weeks of planning and organising both a staff morning tea and a whole school sausage sizzle. And what an amazing job they did! VET Kitchen students were also involved in catering the events and providing everyone with delicious food on the day.

Well done to all involved. The students raised $718.00 for Cancer Council!

VCE calendar

Please be aware that the VCE SAC Calendar is live on compass. You are able to access this and see when your child has a SAC/event coming up.  Students need to be aware of their upcoming SACs so they are able to best prepare for them. In the lead up to their SACs it is vital that the students are at school attending their classes and speaking to their teachers and making the most of the time they have with their teachers.

Keeping up to date with coursework is becoming an issue for students. The 3 weekly progress reports are a good way to track how your child is performing.  If you are unable to access Compass please contact the school to receive your username and password.

Mid Year Exams

Congratulations to all those students who sat exams over the past week. It has been a huge week for everyone.

GAT Examination

On Wednesday 13th June all students studying a 3/4 subject sat the GAT (General Assessment Task).  Feedback from the supervisor was all positive, with regards to the behaviour of all students involved, so congratulations. However, some students arrived unprepared for the GAT and not at the requested time, which was a little disappointing.  To those students-please do not repeat this behaviour for your end of year exams.
