Year 7/8 News

Assistant Principals News

It has been another busy term for our Junior School students at Cranbourne East Secondary College.

A major highlight this term was our annual Cross Country event held onsite at the school. Our Junior School students participated in the run with high levels of enthusiasm.

Within the classroom, our Junior School students have been working hard on subject specific tasks and activities. Our Junior School students have also been recognised for demonstrating and displaying the school values of Respect, Responsibility, Growth and Achievement.

Please be reminded that the Year 8 Camp is fast approaching. If there are any queries regarding the camp, please make contact with Mr Brent Hobba on the school’s phone number: 5990 0200.

I hope everyone in our school community has restful and relaxing holiday break.

Year 8 News

On behalf of the Leaders of Year 8 we would like to thank all Class Captains and the other student leaders who have given up their lunch times to design and complete the art project now hanging in the Year 8 section of the green building. They are currently working on the second of 4 instalments revolving around the “Seasons” theme, we look forward to seeing the final three pieces.

We would also like to give a big shout out to all those students who have received Post Cards and Values Cards over the term. Your efforts in going above and beyond the schools expectations have set a great example to the entire cohort.

One last thank you needs to go to Simone Liebhart, admin officer for the 7s and 8s. Simone has worked hard all semester supporting not only staff but all the students and parents with anything and everything related to the Junior school.

YEAR 8 CAMP PRESENTATION:

The Year 8 Team would like to thank all the parents and students who attended the Informative Year 8 Camp Information Evening and BBQ held on the 7TH June and presented by the camp organisers, OutBeyond. The presentation discussed topics such as safety, the surfing, the grounds and an outline of program that our Year 8s will experience. It allowed parents the worthwhile opportunity to ask and clarify any questions from, not only, the College, but from those who run the camp. It was a nice evening that enabled all involved to gain a good understanding of the exciting program that awaits our Year 8s.

YEAR 8 SPORT:

The Year 8 Team would like to send out a huge congratulations and thank you to all the Year 8 students who recently represented Cranbourne East Secondary College in different team sports. It was great to hear that all the teams played hard and tried their best. In short, the results were as follows: The Year 8 Boys Soccer Team won their competition, the Girls Soccer Team came third and the Netball Teams also put in a strong showing within their tournament. Overall, once again, thank you to all involved and for your efforts on behalf of the College.

Year 8 Inter-school Netball - Wednesday 13th June

We had two teams of netballers who were looking forward to a day of competition on Wednesday 13th. The girls have shown their commitment by attending training sessions over the last six weeks, happily giving up their lunchtimes to practice together.

On the day, the A team met the biggest challenge for the day in Game 1 against Alkira Secondary College. This team had some outstanding players and worked together extremely well. After this initial defeat, the girls really came together as a team. Sophie and Taylah found their groove in the goals, with Nikki, Maia and Chloe feeding them well from the centre court. Ayva, Kaylah and Lupe did a superb job in defence. Whilst Tegan was the most flexible player on the day, moving from goals, to centre court and then into defence, where she was able to put the opposition goalers under considerable pressure. Luci was unable to play due to illness, but was a great help to me on the day.

At the end of the day, the A Team finished second in our pool and third overall out of nine schools. A great team effort.

The B team made more improvements than any team I have seen in a long time. Through out of control laughter, the girls learned more about the rules of the game, made better decisions about passes and were able to get some wins on the board. Faith and Shaylen proved to be a strong combination in goals, settling into a nice rhythm by the end of the day. Tammeka, Zarrah, Grace and Soli played in the centre court and, with each game, improved their leads and timing. Perry and Miriam held up the defence positions well, and Perry showed the flexibility of swinging into goals as well. We also discovered that Soli is a bit of a gun in defence; we’ll need to remember that for next year!

Year 8 Boys Soccer

On Wednesday 13th June, 16 Year 8 students participated in Casey South Division Soccer. Six weeks of training had the boys fired up for competition day.

In our first fame against Casey, the boys started slow, before scoring 3 goals in the 2nd half to record a comprehensive 3-1 win. The 2nd game was against a strong Hampton park team. After a close 1st half, the boys played their best half of the day to put one past the Hampton Park keeper. In the final group match, the boys beat Minaret 3-1 to proceed to the final against Alkira.

In what was a high quality game of soccer for year 8 standard, the boys trailed 1-0 going into the last minutes of play. Suddenly, a turnover in midfield allowed Emre to play a ball through to Emmanuel on the right wing, catching the Alkira defence out of position. Emmanuel dribbled down the right side and into the penalty area before cutting a pass back to Efran who was unmarked. Efran then had the composure to take one touch and fire the ball into to the right side of the net. 30 seconds later, the ref blew his whistle and pointed to the penalty marker for a penalty shoot out to take place.

Despite missing our 2nd penalty, Will, Sishir, Marshall and Yaqoob all had ice in their veins as they calmly slotted the ball into the left and right corners of the goal. This was enough to lift the Pennant as Mark (our goal keeper) did a fantastic job to save two Alkira penalties. CESC were Division Champs!

The boys now move onto Regional competition on July 28th. Congratulations Boys!!
