From the Principal

Term two is always a busy term. Since the last edition of the newsletter students at CESC have taken part in a range of learning activities within and beyond the classroom walls. Students have engaged and participated in Year 9 City Experience, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, School Cross Country, Interschool Sports, The GAT, Year 10, 11 and 12 mid-year exams, Information Nights, Free Dress Day and Multicultural Day. I am grateful to our staff who provide a range of events and activities for our students to thrive and congratulate the students for participating and taking advantage of the opportunities they are given. 

Senior School Information Night and Course Counselling is an important time for Year 10 students. Last week all Year 10 students attended an assembly where they were introduced to the Senior School courses. The students started to seriously consider and think about their future pathways. The Senior School Information night was held last Thursday 14th June. The evening gave parents and students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Senior School and our VCE, VCAL and VET options. I would like to thank all the parents and students that attended, as education is not only a journey for the students it is a partnership between the school, the student and their parent. In addition I would like to thank the Senior School teachers and the careers team for providing invaluable information and assistance on the night. 

All Year 10, 11 and 12 students recently participated in mid-year examinations. Research shows that students perform much better when exposed to extensive exam training and explicit feedback.  Mid-year exams provide students with the opportunity to practice exam techniques in order to maximise results. Teachers can also address areas of concern in student performance and exam technique. This year we will continue to utilise Year 10 mid-year student exam results as an indicator for 2019 course selection. Our leadership team will be examining these results in preparation for course counselling interviews and the results will serve as a guide to the appropriateness of subject selection.

Multicultural Day was once again a great celebration of the great diversity of cultures within our school. It was wonderful to see performances from students and staff at the Multicultural Day Assembly. I hope the members of the community that attended enjoyed the fantastic performances.

Semester 1 reports will be available on Compass during the last week of Term. This date has been slightly delayed due to software issues with Compass. It is essential that students and their families reflect on the feedback regarding their child’s progress.

I would like to wish all Students, Parents and Staff a happy and safe break and look forward to seeing you all at the start of Term 3 on the July 16th.
