The Big Write and VCOP

This year at St Mary's all classes will be implementing strategies for writing in their classrooms called the 'Big Write' and VCOP (which stands for Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation).  The basis for this is oral language - 'if they can't say it, they can't write it'.

All classes will have a day when they celebrate their writing and what they have learnt throughout the week, and this session will be called the 'Big Write'.  On the night before this happens, your child may come home with some 'talking homework'.  The children will bring home the topic and will be encouraged to talk to someone at home about the topic with a focus on vocabulary. More information will be given at Parent Information Sessions next week.
