Tips for Talking with Children during the Coronavirus Outbreak.

This short video introduces ways for parents and carers to manage media coverage of traumatic events, and talk to their children about their worries and fears. There are some great tips for us to take from this during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. At the end of the video, there is the address to the Emerging Minds website that has more information to access or simply follow the link we have provided below.

Mindfulness

"Mindfulness is consciously bringing awareness to your here and now experiences with openness, interest and receptiveness." Harris 2006

Our teachers at St Mary's are very aware of the importance of practising mindfulness and meditation in the classroom. Take the opportunity each day to spend some time with your child doing this together. Please remember that the Peaceful Kids meditation are available for everyone to do. Please find the link below;

Georgina Manning from Peaceful Kids has also compiled many resources on the padlet that is linked below. Take a look and you may find something that suits you and your family during this time. There is so much on there from parenting articles, music and things just for fun. There are also some interesting articles in the benefits of allowing children to be bored, these could come in very handy in the weeks to come. Check it all out at;

Many classrooms use Go Noodle ( you will need to sign up for this and it is free) for lesson breaks they also have a section on Mindfulness with lots of different short activities for children to do. There also lots of dances and movement activities to do if everyone is stuck inside. Your child will probably have their own favourites.

Smiling Minds is also a great website and app for mindfulness and mediatation.

Reach Out

If you have any concerns about your own or child's wellbeing reach out to others. Please feel free to contact the school if you need any support. We have included some links that may be helpful.  Remember there will always be a hand to help you out.

Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. Everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks will have the door opened."
