Principal's Report -

Term 2 Week 2

A big welcome back to Term 2 to everyone.

First I would like to express that I was sad to learn on the holidays that a previous family of our school, the McDonald family, well known Moyhu locals, whose children Jemma and Ethan attended our school, experienced the loss of their dad, Paul. Their mum, Mandi also now has a long road to recovery after a tragic event. Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time. There is an upcoming event on Sunday 19th May at the Moyhu Hotel to raise money for the McDonald family. There is a flyer with more details at the end of this newsletter.

PUPPET SHOW

The term certainly started out very busy with all the children heading up to Myrrhee to see a puppet show at the Hall. The year 6 students then stayed and worked with the puppeteer creating and moving their own puppets.

ANZAC DAY

ANZAC day was on the Thursday with our school captains Audrey and Lily laying a wreath for the soldiers. Ivy O’Connor read a poem that she wrote about all the soldiers that have fought in the wars. It was also very good to see a number of children and their families attend the ceremony.

BIKE RIDE

On Friday the Year 3-6 children had a bike ride from Myrtleford to Bright. It was a great challenge to all the children to ride the 30km on the Bike trail. The day was cool but with some encouragement all the children worked through their challenges and made it to Bright. Thanks to Warren Proft and Dave Suffield for riding with the group, Kylie Morey for driving the support vehicle and trailer.

BIKE ED TRAILER

Week 2 has been a lot quieter with the children settling back in to work. We do have the Bike Ed trailer at the school with the children continuing to develop their bike skills around the very challenging course created in the school. All the children have participated in this program and have continued to grow in skills and confidence.

OUTDOOR SCHOOL CAMP - 15 MILE CREEK

Next Monday the Year 3 & 4 students will be travelling to the Outdoor School -15 Mile Camp site and participate in a number of exciting activities. It will be great to see and hear about the camp their return on Thursday.

COOKING

This week the 3-6’s couldn’t go to Edi Upper Primary School for SAKG, so Linda came to Moyhu and used our kitchen. The students had lots of fun finding where everything was located, as they made ANZAC biscuits, pancakes and Basil pesto pasta.

PARLIAMENTARY EDUCATION SCHOOL VISIT

Next Tuesday the 5 & 6 children will be lucky enough to be a part of a visit from the Educational School in Canberra. The 5 & 6 students from the cluster will come to Moyhu to find out a bit more about our Federal Government System. As this is the senior students theme this term, it will be a great introduction and knowledge building time for the students. This visit will be followed up later in the term by a two day trip to Melbourne where the children will visit the State Parliament House.

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING & NEWSLETTER

Reminder for School Council meeting, it will be this Monday at 5.30.
