Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 4

We have commenced yet another very busy Term at HPSC.

Staffing News

Welcome back to Ms. Kelly Hatfield who returns from family leave, and we say thank you and goodbye to Ms. Keshni Singh who has accepted an ongoing teaching position at Alkira Secondary College. Ms Singh will commence in her new school at the start of next week.

Year 12 Updates

Over the holidays, our students studying VCE Units 3 and 4 have been studying hard, revising work and undertaking practice exams.  Thank you to our dedicated teachers for working during the recent holidays to support our students.

On Monday 21st October, Year 12 students will engage in the annual mystery ‘Celebration Day’ excursion and Tuesday 22nd October the final Year 12 assembly will be conducted. Parents and carers of Year 12 students are invited to this special assembly. Our Valedictory Dinner will be held on Wednesday 23rd October. This is a special time for our Graduating students and their families. During the evening, I look forward to meeting students and families.

Sad News

It is with great sadness that I inform you that our community recently lost two beautiful souls. Shannon Lorenzo Juriansz 21, a former student, was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. Shannon will be remembered as a happy, friendly, supportive young man who was incredibly technically minded.

Lisa Hart, one of our amazing parents, lost her battle after a long illness.  Lisa supported the learning community in many ways, with many remembering her work behind the scenes sewing costumes and baking to support students in the school productions.

Families of both Shannon and Lisa have thanked staff and students of our learning community for their prayers and wishes during this sad and difficult time.

Victorian Education Excellence Awards

At HPSC, we have many high performing teams. However, our Multicultural Education Aide (MEA) team are so outstanding that they have been recognised as a finalist for the Victorian Education Excellence Awards.  Our MEA Team continue to go above and beyond supporting students with English as an additional language feel empowered and improve outcomes.

School Improvement

As Principal of HPSC, I am striving for our school to be the school of first choice for our families. Throughout this year, and with feedback from students, staff and parents, we have been constantly reviewing our programs, operations and approaches to learning. I have high expectations of myself, my team and of our students.

In 2020, our college will support a new approach improving learning outcomes for our students.  We will offer a more personalised, tailor-made approach to engagement and excellence. Our students will have more choices, will be better able to explore their passion, while considering their learning needs.

Our student empowered model of learning is specifically designed to engage students and thereby improve learning. As mentioned previously, our world is changing rapidly as such, schools need to adjust learning programs that will better enable students to develop the skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurial skills, skills needed for the 21st Century.

I have recently advertised for an additional Assistant Principal to join our team and to assist with implementing our vision and school wide improvement. Interviews will be conducted later this week.

Curriculum Day - November 4th

Please note that we will be having a Curriculum planning day on Monday 4th November (Melbourne Cup Eve).  This is a student free day and no students are required at school. This date has been selected to minimise disruption to learning as many members of our community go away with family and friends.

Staff at HPSC will undertake professional learning and planning for our new learning program for 2020.
