Principal's Report

Thank you to all staff and students for your work throughout the term. As the Term 1 draws to a close, I encourage everyone to reflect on your achievements and what you could do differently to improve.

Congratulations to all students who have achieved a personal best in the recent CATS and GPA results. At HP, we recognize that success comes in many different forms. We strive for excellence and always focus on growth. Not everyone can be the best, but everyone can be their best. A growth mindset is an important quality of successful people. Continuous improvement and striving to be your best, will enable the impossible to become possible.

At HP, our values underpin our work. Respect, Working Together and Learning can be seen every day at our college. When students demonstrate that they are neglecting one or more of our values, we respond swiftly, parents are contacted, and students are held accountable. All good schools ensure a safe and orderly learning environment. Any form of physical violence or bullying will not be tolerated at our college. We must all take a stand against such actions.

Congratulations to the wonderful student ambassadors and leaders we have at HP, keep up your good work.

Following the recent tragic events in New Zealand, students and staff at HP stopped to reflect on the terrible events and the senseless loss of life. We are all different and unique. Regardless of our differences, in culture and/or religious beliefs, we should always respect each other.

Congratulations to our Year 7 campers who have recently returned from the Coastal experience Camp at Phillip Island with stories of many adventures and new-found friendships. Thank you  to Mr. Billy Jessop for his leadership and to all supporting staff for their efforts.

This week, selected students from all Year levels participated in our Student Voice -Teaching and Learning Forum, conducted by Ms. Vanessa Dennis and supported by Ms. Fiona Vanstan and Ms. Erin Louden. The forum provided a wonderful opportunity for students to reflect on the strengths of our learning programs and suggestions for improvement. Congratulations to all involved.

Recently William, Dimitri, Faisal and Parneet of Year 10 joined me at a morning tea with two of the winners of the 2018 Clunies Ross Award winners at Casey Tech, Berwick. Dr Erol Harvey was one of the winners of the Entrepreneur of the Year  award for his contribution to Australia through the world-leading microfluid engineering company MiniFAB. Associate Professor Guillaume Lessene was part of the team that won the Knowledge Commercialisation Award for their role in the development of the anticancer agent ‘Venetoclax’.  Students participated in a Science Lab workshop and a Virtual reality experience.

Please note, Term 2 will resume on Tuesday April 23rd, as Easter Monday is a Public holiday. Our student led ANZAC Commemorative Assemblies will take place on first day of Term 2. Thursday 25th is ANZAC Day holiday.

Wishing all students and staff a safe and restful term break.
