Forgiveness & Reconciliation

In this weekend's Gospel, we listened to a fitting theme of forgiveness and reconciliation which aligns with the current Sacrament of Reconciliation that we are teaching our students in school.

As we can see in the banner image, forgiveness without reconciliation will leave behind a very barren and hardened ground which we can recontextualise as the message of a hardened heart.Forgiveness is the foundation for reconciliation. We are challenged with loving our enemies and turning the other cheek. Behaviour we may find very challenging in our contemporary world but a message that has certainly stood the test of time.

When we read these messages with students through breaking upon Scripture, we need to ensure we make relevant connections to their lived experiences and connect the narrative of the Bible with authentic and meaningful possibilities that they will understand now in 2022. This is called recontextualisation, whereby we dialogue with our students and create the opportunity for authentic links of the written Word with our current context, keeping the essence of the Biblical message.

Enhancing Catholic School Identity

Every four years, Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Sale engage in a project titled 'Enhancing Catholic School Identity' (ECSI) whereby students, staff and parents and carers are invited to complete a survey to assist schools to better understand how their Catholic identity is expressed in work and practice and to support schools in their future development.

All staff,  Year 5 and 6 students and some parents are asked to complete the survey to provide valuable data to be used to make future improvements at our school. Consequently, some families will be invited to complete this survey to assist our work in Catholic Identity. We hope those families chosen to undertake the survey will take the time to complete it, as it provides very valuable information to guide our practice.

A letter will be sent via email in the upcoming week, to randomly selected parents/carers informing them of how to engage in completing the online survey. Should you require assistance in completing the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please view the attached flyer about the ECSI Project.
