Year Five/Six News

This week the year 5/6 students were graced with an incursion presented by Barry and Cynda from History Box to learn about Australian celebrations, commemorations, and Anzac Day. During this half-day incursion, we explored the reasons why Australia is such a multi-cultural country and heard about stories and the origins of different days celebrated here, like Bastille Day. We participated in a variety of activities including, writing a letter using ink wells, playing games soldiers played in the trenches and making medals and tealight candle trays from clay. We spent time after recess learning about Anzac Day from the time soldiers landed at Gallipoli to the moment the war ended. This informative incursion supported the learning that has been taking place in the 5/6 classrooms over the past few weeks and will also support the upcoming preparation for our Anzac Day service.
