Resource Centre

What a wonderful start to the year it has been. Opening our doors to the Resource Centre to the full cohort of Nazareth students once again has been like visiting an old friend who has been greatly missed. The buzz and energy of students who feel safe, happy and comfortable has been palpable. In turn, this has brought joy to each of the Resource Centre staff members whose role it is to support all students.

Before school, at recess and lunchtime on any given day, students can be found reading, studying, collaborating, playing chess or Uno, practicing piano, crocheting or completing puzzles. The Year 7 students who are new to Nazareth College have really embraced this special space and have settled in very easily. Our Year 12 students are off to a great start with informal study groups working together in every break time, including before and after school.

The Year 7 – 9 Wide Reading program has got off to an impressive start, with all classes participating in their fortnightly Wide Reading sessions and having the opportunity to borrow books from our physical collection as well as our online eBooks and eAudiobooks through Borrowbox. All students from Years 7 to 12 are encouraged to download the BorrowBox app to their smartphones or tablets and make use of our growing digital collection. It has been heartening to see so many young people who have a genuine love of reading borrow many titles from our shelves. Reading is integral to academic success, but is also a wonderful form of relaxation, escape and entertainment.

The Library Ambassador program continues this year. Any student who wishes to assist with duties in the Resource Centre, such as helping reshelving returned books and working the Circulation Desk, is encouraged to apply to become a Library Ambassador. This is a wonderful Community Service and fantastic to include as work experience on a resume.

We look forward to working with staff and students throughout 2022 and we are hopeful that the Resource Centre will continue to be a vibrant meeting place and wonderful space for students to utilise.
