Cranbourne Campus News

Shrove Tuesday

Last week saw a visit from our Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sale, Bishop Greg Bennet, which coincided with Shrove Tuesday. Bishop Greg’s visit created such great energy and intrigue around the campus, especially for our College Captains on the Cranbourne Campus, who were able to get up close and personal with Bishop Greg. On this day our VCAL team put together an amazing spread of pancakes and condiments, traditionally shared amongst family, friends and the community before the Lenten season commences on Ash Wednesday.

As we move past the mid-point of Term 1, there has been a noticeable shift in the atmosphere and vibe around the Cranbourne Campus as students and teachers find their rhythm back into what has been an uninterrupted school term. The stability has provided the College community with a visible sense of positivity and energy around the campus, seeing a return to levels of the pre-COVID times. The return of the SIS Sport Competition, Inter-House carnivals, and excursions has brought about excitement and enthusiasm for the students, staff and parents/guardians, as we move towards a 2022 school year that is full of hope and promise. Students and teachers alike have commented on the atmosphere that is evident across the campus, highlighted by a successfully run Swim Carnival and the Avila run ‘Speed-ball’ competition activity to kick off Term 1.

St. Peter’s College is committed to supporting each and every member of the community, particularly in the wake of the difficulties faced over the past two years. With students, teachers, and families readjusting back into the rhythm of the day-to-day routine with balancing work and school, we understand that this is not an easy, straightforward process to return to. Liam Casson in combination with TeacherMagazine.com has published an article regarding the idea of ‘Practicing Gratitude’. He presents practical tips for focusing on the positivity within our lives, rather than a bias towards the negative. As highlighted in the article, Robin Sharma states that “What you focus on grows” (Practicing gratitude to improve wellbeing) which is a simple, but memorable lesson for many of us to take on. When we are faced with adversity, Mary Spillane shared her tips for (Coping with uncertainty in life) through TeacherMagazine.com; 1. Regaining a sense of control, and 2. Focus on the present moment.

We hope that 2022 at St. Peter’s College continues to head in the direction that it has begun…with hope and promise.

Swimming Carnival

The 2022 St Peter’s College Cranbourne campus Swimming Carnival was a wet and wild event!

Our yearly swimming carnival is always an event that students and teachers look forward to and is a major event that goes towards the Mcguigan Shield! This year we were lucky enough to have a day that provided beautiful weather.

The swimming carnival kicked off with Year 11’s and 12’s doing their lap around the pool. It was great to see the participation the senior students had in dressing up as there was also a wide range of creativity!

This year the winners of the best dressed were awarded to the Woodland Fairies and The Bardi Army.

We appreciate the efforts that were put in for the day by a wide range of people starting with the barbeque that the Year 11 VCAL class ran across the day.

Down in the novelty pool the Sport and Recreation class put together a great event of dodgeball, which had a lot of people involved, which everyone loves to see and it contributes to House points.

Throughout the day Assisi House had a great contribution to their house chants which Mr Robinson always does an amazing job of ensuring his House is heard, Assisi House also did an amazing job in the house chant competition which got them across the line to win the House cheering competition.

The participation was excellent throughout the day from all Houses, the relays were amazing to watch as everyone took part! All Houses made a great contribution to the relay races, although Mackillop House and their strong swimmers got them across the line to win the glory of Swimming Carnival Champions!

We would like to thank the staff who gave up their time to marshal, timekeep and supervise, as this event wouldn’t have been possible without their efforts.

A special thank you to our sports coordinator Mr Murphy  for all of his hard work and organisation to make this event possible.
