Last week we were fortunate to have English consultant Stephen Graham visit us at Mackellar Primary School once again. Stephen has been working with our staff and students over the past 12 months to refine our teaching practices in English, enhancing consistency across the school. He has supported us to develop a whole-school plan for the teaching of English and has modelled a wide range of lessons in a variety of year levels.

During his recent visit, Stephen visited our Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 6 classrooms, modelling the implementation of a highly structured two-hour Literacy block. His approach involves the explicit teaching of Literacy skills associated with various text types, such as procedural, exposition and response texts. During our daily Literacy sessions, students gain the experience and skills to enable them to read and write a range of different text types successfully. 

We look forward to continuing our work with Stephen throughout the year.
