Year 11 Psychology

During Week 5, Year 11 Psychology students took part in a brain dissection. Students were able to locate the main structures of a sheep brain, including the cerebrum, the cerebellum, the brain stem (including the medulla and pons), and the midbrain. Students also created a brain hat in class to further demonstrate their understanding. They then completed a formative task based on their overall knowledge of the main brain structures and functions.

‘Using the scalpel, we cut open the brain and we were able to see the myelinated parts of the brain. It was interesting as we were able to see the main structures of the brain.’

‘I enjoyed being able to cut open the brain and see the main structures.’

‘It got us to see what an actual brain looks like, as opposed to just the images. It allowed us to gain more knowledge.’
