Interschool Sport

Kingston Lawn Bowls

On Monday 28 February, Beaumaris Secondary competed in the Kingston Division Lawn Bowls for the first time in the school’s history. Having never competed in this competition before, it was fantastic to see the students' participate with such enthusiasm.

Although we did not win the pennate, it was great to see all three teams give it 100% and represent Beaumaris with great pride.

The Lawn Bowls interschool sport competition was a great experience. Our teams had so much fun and we all enjoyed playing as a team and cheering each other on. The A team played competitively and the B & C teams played just for fun. Overall, it was a wonderful da, and I would definitely recommend it to people for next year!

Intermediate Girls Cricket

On Monday 21 February, the Inter Girls Cricket Team headed out to Duncan McKinnon Reserve to take on 5 schools from within the Kingston Division. Lead by the captain, Amelie O, who was fresh off her maiden premier cricket century playing for the MCC, the girls took on some of the much more fancied schools in the division - McKinnon, Bentleigh, Brighton and Mordialloc.

The format was a round robin and from the first ball of the day, until the winning runs at the end of the day, the girls put on a cricket clinic, dominating each game and allowing all of the 14 squad members to participate. Before going into the star performers within the group, the clear highlight for me was watching the remaining squad members start their own game on the sidelines while waiting to bat and seeing the girls teaching each other the skills of the game. Within the games themselves we had many star performers, led by Amelie, who wasn’t dismissed for the entire day (I did retire her a couple of times!) and made around 130 odd runs during the 4 games. Lily R, an all-rounder in Year 9, opened the bowling and batting and wasn’t far behind Amelie as the best cricketer in the competition. Cammie S, a tall fast bowler in Year 9, would’ve bowled 7 overs for the day, claiming a handful of wickets at less than a run per over!

Finally, behind the stumps we clearly had the best keeper in the competition, Indi K, who also had a devastating pull shot that produced many runs for her during the day. Outside of these girls who play cricket outside of school, Remy P was outstanding in the field and was involved in a number of run outs, Liv H produced some quality overs of bowling and Ava L took a couple of neat catches in the field.

The 14 member squad will now reconvene in Term 4 for the regional finals were I’m confident we can produce another high standard of performance. Training is scheduled to start in Term 3!
